In Brazil, the demand for electricity has increased almost 200% in 30 years according to the Ministry of Mines and Energy. Especially decentralized generation (DG) is driving momentum in the Brazilian market, in particular since the sale of surplus power has been exempted from taxes in all states across Brazil. The Northeast in particular has the potential to supply a big part of the consumption with solar and wind energy.
Taking in consideration the natural conditions and the low prices for property in comparison to the rest of the country, the Northeast stands out in the renewable energy sector. According to the goals of the Fortaleza 2040 Plan the city is planning to occupy 10% of its roofs with solar panels, in addition to becoming energy self-sufficient by 2040.
Ceará is not only rich in sunshine, a strong breeze blows from the sea almost all year round. There are few regions on earth that are as predestined for the use of renewable energies as the Brazilian State of Ceará. The potential is far from being exhausted and the strategically favourable geographical location offers great logistical advantages for investors.
On Friday, April 17th, 2020, following the Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste, we want to visit Wobben Windpower, a subsidiary of the northern German company Enercon. The company has owned a factory to produce rotor blades for wind turbines in the Port and Industry Complex of Pecém CIPP (Complexo Industrial e Portuário do Pecém). The export of rotor blades from the CIPP has increased multiple in total last year. A large process engineering team also works in the Ceará Wobben plant, which carries out parameter adjustment and the development of new devices. Numerous processes and software were developed there and are now used in every Enercon branch in the world.
Another programme item is a short tour of the port of Pecém, where briefly are explained the investment and tax advantages of the state of Ceará in the sector of renewable energies.
At the end of the day, we would visit a wind farm and a solar park in the dunes, where will be given special consideration to the country-specific characteristics.

Our sponsors, exhibitors, members and conference delegates, representing various decision-makers across the renewable energy supply chain (i.e. manufacturers, wholesalers, installers, investors, developers, EPC, OEMs, consultants), follow the major goal of mutually developing strategies and solution based approaches to secure a green and sustainable future.
Don’t miss the valuable opportunity to meet with local market intermediaries and international industry stakeholders along the entire value chain and voice your opinion on what is truly needed to grow business from the grass roots up.
We would be delighted to welcome you in person!
