Intersolar Summit Iran – Exciting Opportunities in the Middle East’s Most Promising Solar Market

On November 21, 2017 the Intersolar Summit Iran will take place in Tehran for the second time. After the large attendance at last year’s inaugural event, the Iranian solar market is awakening and holding high potential. The Iranian PV market is speeding up and growing more and more.

Pforzheim / Tehran. Today in particular, in times of various political upheavals all around the globe and progressive globalization, the Iranian government has recognized the importance of a self-supporting, modern and stable electricity supply. The rising number of solar projects of the recent years showed the efforts to diversify the country’s energy portfolio and increase its focus on renewable energy sources. The current installed capacity of 240 MW is planned to rise up to 5,000 MW by the end of 2020. Despite attractive feed in tariffs targeted at motivating solar companies to invest, the market remains challenging and difficult to predict. Mohammad H. Ghafouri, Founder & Managing Director of AYSA Ltd and Founder of Iran-Wind Group, summarizes the situation as follows: “Iran has decided to move faster in this field and the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) has been helpful. Nevertheless there are still problems regarding financing the projects. Iranian banks are not connected yet with international banks and it has taken long until a project could be financed by foreign banks.”

This year’s Intersolar Summit Iran will once again feature the hot topics currently impacting the local market development. Actual political protagonists, amongst others Dr. Seyed Mohammad Sadeq Zadeh, Deputy Minister and Head of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), will get a chance to speak about the government’s future plans and the decisions made right now to drive forward the solar market. In this framework current legal and regulatory issues will be illustrated together with their impact on regional and international investors by delegates of international law firms, such as Herbert Smith Freehills Legal Firm and Watson Farley & Williams Legal Firm. More detailed sessions, presented by global players, such as Günter Grabner, Managing Director at KPV Solar and Clark Xu, Sales Director, Smart PV in the Middle East Region from HUAWEI, will treat the local requirements to expect for modern energy companies and make the market more tangible for professionals of different solar industries. In order to round off the deeper understanding gained of the Iranian solar market, selected experts will speak about the availability of finance by Iranian banks and give an outlook for the most relevant financing mechanisms for companies seeking to establish a foothold in the Iranian solar energy market. Already experienced executives of the sector will share their expertise in the frame of interactive discussions, professionally guided round tables and extended networking opportunities.

The conference is supported by top-class sponsors with a vast portfolio of expertise in the Middle East region, such as leading solar investor SUNEL Group, large-scale photovoltaic developer KPV Solar and high-ranking renewable energy company Noursun Energy as Diamond Sponsors. Further sponsors of the event are Bayan Emroz International Law Firm, CW Enerji, HUWAEI, KACO new energy INC., Persian Holding, Poyan Afzar and SHARP. Additionally, various local and international supporting organizations are complementing the valuable energy industry network at the conference.
